MODify with a tutu...

Be creative.

Don't throw away all those short dresses, just pair them with a longer skirt underneath.

A full romantic tutu can be rather cheap and found at most dancewear shops. Not to mention, they can really doll up and MODify a shorter dress.

Ballet Conditioning

Springtime is upon us, and that means that swim suit whether is almost here!  Which means, it is time to diet and exercise my way to a lean and healthy body. Especially, since I have packed on a few pounds due to being in the wonderful newlywed coma. But with our first year anniversary coming up, it is most defiantly time to snap out of it, and shed some of the extra weight.

With a busy schedule, I'm always trying to find ways to fit in a good workout. Like most, it is very rare to find an actual exercise class that I can squeeze in between my full time job, my husband, making dinner, daily chores, etc. Sheesh, sometimes it is even hard to set aside time at all for a daily dose. So, in the past I have dabbled and soon came to embrace the workout DVD lifestyle. It may not be for everyone, but I have found it to be amazing. It is just a luxury to work out when I want, and in the convenience of my own home. Which brings me to today's post...

If you are looking for a way to get in shape, I reccomend...

"Element Ballet Conditioning" DVD is quite good. It is actully very beautiful and has very clear instruction, both audio and visual. Whether you are a dancer or not, this workout will defiantly help shape, tone, and strengthen your body. I would say anyone without dance experience could pick this up after a few tries. And for dancers alike, it is still very challenging. The fitness level, I'd say, would be beginner to intermediate. Also, since it is a DVD, you can work at your own pace and speed. It does not have a heavy concentration on cardio, so I would advise alternating this video with something else with a more heavy cardio focus throughout the week.  You can also check it out on youtube.com to get a taste.

Currently @ Forever 21

It is not always easy to find something modest at Forever 21, but I rummaged through the entire spring collection online and found a few items worth a look.

They had about four to five dresses that adhered to the longer lengths, but a few didn't have sleeves. However, that can be easily fixed by adding a simple cardigan. When it comes to bottoms, they have quite a few hep skirts and pants. The same goes for tops.

Quick'n Easy: Nursing Cover-Up Shirts

Since I have so many friends that are currently pregnant, or just had a baby... I thought it would be nice to post this quick and easy DIY tutorial of how to make these two nursing cover-up shirts.

Example One
one. Find a loose fitting shirt, like the one shown above. You want to make sure that it does not have a fitted bottom, as well as to be big enough to go over another shirt or tank as to act as a "cover up" slip on shirt over your outfit.

two. On the front of the shirt (and only the front), cut a strait line (just off center) all the way down, like in the example shown.

three. Once cut, if you are handy at the sewing machine, you may hem the sides. Or if it is a jersey material you may simply leave alone, since the fabric will not come undone.

four. The last step is to sew on two to three sets of hook and eye closures at the top of the shirt (where the pink dots are shown). It is suggested to choose a larger hook and eye closure, seeing as they are easier to clasp closed using only one hand.

Example Two
one. Find a loose fitting shirt, like the one shown above.

two. Lay the shirt down flat, the backside of the shirt facing you. Take a measureing tape or ruler and make a pencil tick mark 2-3 inches from the side seams. Then from the shirt collar measure 3-4 inches down and make another tick mark.

three. Pick up the shirt and lay it on its side. So, when looking down at it, the side seam and sleeve is in the center. Find your tick marks and cut in a rounded motion to create the shape, as shown above.

four. At this time, feel free to hem the edges. Otherwise you're done! With the back wide open, it should be easy to lift in the front. And the collar should be loose enough to be able to keep and eye on things and adjust accordingly while nursing, as well. Not to mention, it's something you can just wear as a part of your outfit, and no one would be the wiser.

Spring Basics

clothing pictured above is from jcpenny.com

Reboot your wardrobe this spring. Some assembly is required, but with only the nine items above you can mix and match to create a new outfit for any occasion this season.

Keep in mind, that first purchases should stay close to plain, neutral shades, or simple patterns. And if budget allows, include a few more embellished pieces to add spice to the new wardrobe.

the checklist.

1. cardigan. neutral shades will complete any look, but picking a more vibrant color will also give some pop to any outfit.

2. long sleeve shirt. add a few simple plain or simple pattern 3/4 to long sleeve shirts.

3. simple tee.  skip the costly designer versions and add a variety to the wardrobe by buying a lot more of just cute inexpensive ones. then replace as needed.

4. blouse. having one or two nice blouses is essential. something to combine with a skirt, or just something classy to dress up a jean outfit.

5. skinny jean. once considered a trend, they are now a denim staple. especially one that convert quickly into a low capri, just by rolling up at the bottom once or twice. keep to darker shades of denim, for two reasons. one, darker denim can actually dress up an outfit, but still be casual all at the same time. two, a darker shade will flatter any shape.

6. pedal pusher. also considered the modest short. pedal pushers should hit just below the knee.

7. full skirt. an a-line skirt can be worn casually with a simple tee, or dressed up with a nice blouse.

8. pencil skirt. a classic piece that should be tailored to your body. finding a pencil skirt that is meant for you may take a few tries. it maybe a simple sillouette, but there are many variations out there that are meant for differnt body shapes. if you have more curves, stay away from the stretch fabrics that cling; gravitate more towards loose fitting, but structured ones.

9. dress. a plain or simple dress, like above, can be converted into several differnt outfits just by adding a nice pull over sweater or cardigan. sprinkle on a few accesories like a belt, light weight scarf, or flower pin and "ta da" its a whole new outfit.

Shade

Today's feature store is SHADE.

SHADE is an all around wonderful store.  Great comfortable basics, dresses, vintage inspired swim suits, and stylish maternity.  They also offer free shipping and returns, as well as some great sales.

Summer Time

Summer is fast approaching, which means let the hunt for awesome swimsuits begin!

I've gone through many-a-many of swim wear sites, and found the most adorable, functional, and stylish swim suits that remain along the modest theme. In no particular order...

$ = $0-$30     $$ = $30-$60     $$$ = $60-$100

Girls4Sport: $$ :  This store is nothing but radtastical athletic/sport swim wear. From simple cute boyshort bottoms to sleeved shirts for riding the waves on your surfboard. If you wish to cover up a bit more, yet still look like a Bad Ace, this is the place. Long sleeves, short sleeves, racer back tanks, etc.

Hapari:  $$  :  Hapari is for every woman. Carries a vast selection of not only styles of swimwear, but also fabrics. They have some of the most adorable swim skirts I have ever seen as well.

Lime Ricki:  $$  :  Not a very wide selection, however the swim suits they carry are just so indie chic, I had to add it to the list. The fabrics are unique, and keep a vintage flair.

Swim Suits For All (Plus sizes from 8&up):  $$$ :  If you are a plus size girl, this is the place! The selection is spectacular, such a wide variety of swim wear styles and fabrics.

Unique Vintage:  $$$ :  This is my personal favorite.  They keep with the vintage styles of high waisted bottoms, the gathered one peices, and of course pin-up bikini's.  A bit on the more expensive side, but well worth the cuteness.
